heritage mural 1 First images seen while entering the main door.

I designed and executed this projectin such a way as to utilize the stairwell in such a way as to not over power the space. By fitting the frames into the respective areas I could make interesting shapes that would float on the walls and at the same time fit together in a cohesive composition. The idea was to create a mural, but I wanted to do it in such a way that the images would have a physical depth as well as an illunionary depth, and that they could be removed if necessary for any reason. The individual pieces are painted with acrylic on heavy stretched canvas, framed with oiled cedar strips and sealed with adurable ultra-violet blocking polymer. This mural was done in 1980, and these pictu;res were taken in 2012.

The imagery represents an aspect of the early history of the area since the arrival of the settlers during the latter part of the 19th century. As one ascends the stairs thecomposition opens around them to reveal a chronological progression of some of the local history.
